A very much tepid affair was sparked into life late in the second half when substitute Ashley Nathaniel-George slotted home a penalty following a shove to Timothee Dieng by Scunthorpe United captain Jordan Clarke.

The away side thought they had done enough to take home all three points, but as has been the way for Southend this season fate reared its ugly head and delt the Shrimpers a hammer blow.

Scunthorpe equalised in the dying moments of the game via Alfie Beestin who broke into the box and fired home through 2 defenders from 12 yards out resulting in the Shrimpers recording yet another draw when victories seem hard to come by.
