Southend Head To Exeter This Saturday

SOUTHEND United head to St James Park the home of Exeter City this weekend in search of three points as they continue the chase to avoid relegation down to the National League.

BUILD-UP

SOUTHEND United head to St James Park the home of Exeter City this weekend in search of three points as they continue the chase to avoid relegation down to the National League.

The Essex-based side are currently 4 points behind Essex rivals Colchester United and 2 in front of Grimsby Town as the fight to survive has now come down to a three-horse race in which only 1 can survive.

With the returning Phil Brown now having had a full week to work and get to know the players having replaced the departed Mark Molesley just a week ago many are hoping, praying for a turn around in form and a return to winning ways before games run out with just 5 fixtures left.

Following the death of Prince Phillip, all sporting fixtures have been rearranged with this fixture being moved to a 12:30 kick-off on Saturday with the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral taking place at 3 pm.

TEAM NEWS

Simeon Akinola

Many were surprised to see Simeon Akinola’s name nowhere to be found on the starting 11 or bench on Saturday afternoon but it turns out the striker had been suffering from a bout of sickness and will more than likely feature this coming Saturday.

Timothee Dieng

The Frenchman will be out for a week to 10 days following a scan on the hamstring injury picked up during last weekend’s fixture at home to Crawley Town.
