Southend Host Newport County On The Final Day Of The Season This Saturday

AND so we’ve come to the final fixture of the 2020/2021 League 2 campaign which sees Southend United host Newport County at Roots Hall this coming Saturday afternoon.

It’s fair to say that the 2020/2021 League 2 campaign was an absolute disaster for Southend United which ultimately saw the Essex-based side relegated from the Football League for the first time in 101 years.

The Shrimpers have nothing to play for in this fixture having seen relegation confirmed last weekend away at Barrow so the pressure is off the team although the same cannot be said for the visitors.

Newport County are gunning for the play-off spots and with this being the final league game of the season the visitors know that a win will be enough to see the Exiles secure a top-seven finish with only a point required to guarantee them the spot.
