Southend Pegged Back By Wrexham To Finish 2-2 At Roots Hall

SOUTHEND supporters thought they had three points in the bag when they found themselves 2-0 up against their Welsh opposition with 52 minutes on the clock but in typical fashion, eyes were taken off the prize allowing Wrexham back in to take a point away from Roots Hall.

Phil Browns Southend side took a 25-minute lead via youngster Sam Dalby who claimed his second of the season and just after half time his strike partner Rhys Murphy got in on the act to make it 2-0 and the Shrimpers were cruising…. or so they thought.

Just 2 minutes after the second goal and the Welsh side had pulled a goal back via Reckord and less than 10 minutes later the visitors stunned the Shrimpers with a well-taken equaliser sending the Wrexham fans crazy.

Southend will feel as if they deserved the three points and if truth be told they should of but as is the way in the life of Southend United the players switched off at two vital moments and it cost them.

If you’d asked me before kick-off I’d of gladly taken a point out of this one so I’ll be thankful for small mercies and we move on to Halifax away next weekend.

Southend: Arnold, White, Coulson, Demetriou, Ralph, Bridge, Ferguson, Phillips, Dunne, Murphy, Dalby.

Subs: Egbri, Dennis, Atkinson, Hobson, Seaden
