Southend Shoot Down The Spitfires Under The Floodlights

A second-half strike from Nathan Ferguson was enough to see the Shrimpers claim a 1-0 National League victory and the Essex-based clubs first since the opening day victory away to King’s Lynn Town F.C.

The visitors Eastleigh came into this fixture riding high in the National League table with 9 points on the table and the home side came into the match with terrible form sitting in the relegation spots.

After a dull first half, it was Nathan Ferguson who sparked the Shrimpers into life with a thunderous shot from outside the area leaving the Eastleigh goalkeeper stranded.

A hard-fought three points for Phil Brown’s side and they now go into the weekends fixture at home to Chesterfield F.C. with their tails held high.

Southend starting XI: Arnold, Ralph, Hobson, Bridge, Dunne, Ferguson, Akinola, Atkinson, Sayers, Kargbo, Demetriou

Southend Subs: Howard, Murphy, Dalby, Walsh, Kimpioka
