2022 continues to be kind to The Shrimpers following tonights 2-1 victory over Yeovil Town at Roots Hall.
A dominant encounter sparked into life early on with efforts for both Matt Dennis and Sam Dalby going close and on the half-hour mark the hosts took the lead following intense pressure upon the Yeovil defence with Tom Clifford squaring the ball to Rhys Murphy who then released former Cyprus international Jason Demetriou who saw his effort deflect wildly and over the stranded Yeovil goalkeeper.
On the hour mark, it was 2-0 to the home side following a wild run from Matt Dennis out from the halfway line into the Yeovil box with the on-loan youngster then seeing his dribbled effort travel across the face of the Yeovil goal and into the path of Tom Clifford who then buried the ball home into the open net.
It was the Shrimpers who reverted to defending with 15 minutes on the clock to protect the ever so valuable lead but Yeovil did manage to grab a consolation goal on the 90th minute via Reuben Reid who bundled the ball home.
Another victory for the Shrimpers who now sit 7 points clear of the relegation places.
Southend XI: Arnold, Ralph, Hobson, Murphy, Dalby, Clifford, Atkinson, Neal, Lopata, Demetriou, Dennis.
