Match Report: Barnet (H)

POOR officiating cost the Shrimpers this evening at Roots Hall as Barnet left with all three points following a 0 -1 win.

Neither side was able to break the deadlock in the first half with the main talking point being a challenge on last man Henry Sandat which should have been a straight red for the Barnet player which Bizarrely wasn’t given.

Barnet themselves will feel hard done by having had a penalty shout waved away in the first half.

In the second half, it was Barnet that came out of the trap with purpose and they finally broke the deadlock in the 66th-minute courtesy of an effort from Smith that Nna Noukeu well rebounded with Kanu putting the ball home on the rebound.

Southend try as they might could not find a way through Barnet and having notable striking options on the injury list did not help matters.

Ultimately a defeat isn’t the end of the world as the players performed well against a Barnet side sure to be in the playoff picture come May.

Next up it’s Chesterfield at home on Tuesday night

Southend XI – Nna Noukeu, Scott-Morriss, Lomas, Hobson, Kensdale, Bridge, Husin, Powell, Taylor, Miley, Sandat.

Subs – Wreh, Benton, Fonguck Clifford, Demetriou
