Match Preview: Wealdstone (A)

Southend head to Grosvenor Vale to face Wealdstone FC in their penultimate away fixture of the campaign.

Blues make their return to action after 8 days and look to back up a convincing 4-2 win over Boreham Wood against another struggling side in Wealdstone. The Shrimpers extended their unbeaten run in comfortable fashion scoring 3 goals in 17 minutes on Easter Monday. Danny Waldron returned to the starting 11 and made his presence known. He produced 2 excellent assists in the first half and played a helping hand in winning a penalty which Bridge put away gladly. Morton also graced the scoresheet with his first goal for the club since joining in December. Maher’s side will now be full of confidence having not lost in 13 games and with an extra 5 days rest over their opponents it’s clear to see why the visitors are favourites.

Wealdstone also played Boreham Wood in their last match but unfortunately for them it was their relegation rivals who netted 4 times as the Stones were handed their biggest defeat of the season. The West London side have seen themselves slip into the relegation battle after picking up just 1 point in their last 6 games and are avoiding the bottom 4 by virtue of goal difference. The club parted ways with David Noble after Saturdays defeat to Boreham Wood and first team coach Sam Cox will take over for the remaining 5 games. Wealdstone held Southend to a 1-1 draw at Roots Hall and will be looking for a similar display Tuesday night to help them remain in the National League.

Southend head into the game in search of a 14th game unbeaten whilst Wealdstone hope to win their first league fixture at home since January.

Safe travels Shrimpers!!
